Health Canada and the current research does not suggest that there are “problems” to overcome that would allow for distribution of raw milk. Alberta Milk is not the decision maker on the legality of raw milk. Health Canada and Alberta Health Services have the authority over the consumption and distribution of raw milk.
This decision is based on the statistics from the public health authorities and scientific literature that show the risk of illness linked to raw milk is significant. As well, the benefits derived from milk pasteurization in reducing this risk have been recognized by the medical and scientific communities for a long time.
