Ingredients
| 1 cup | (250 ml) | 2% milk |
| 1/4 cup | (60 ml) | 35% whipping cream |
| 5 | (large) | eggs, beaten |
| 2 tbsp | (30 ml) | brown sugar |
| 1 tsp | (5 ml) | cinnamon |
| 1 tsp | (5 ml) | vanilla extract |
| 1/2 tsp | (2 ml) | salt, approximately |
| 12 slices | whole wheat bread (day old) | |
| 1/4 cup | (60 ml) | butter |
| Maple syrup |
Directions
- Cut each bread slice into 4 sticks; set aside. Whisk milk with cream, eggs, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and salt in a shallow dish.
- Melt half the butter in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Dip bread sticks in batches and add to skillet; cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side or until golden brown adding remaining butter as necessary.
- Hold prepared French toast sticks in a warm oven 200°F (100°C) until ready to serve. Serve with maple syrup.
