Directions
Cheese
- Firm Cheese: Aged Grizzly Gouda, Aged Clothbound Cheddar, Gruyere.
- Soft Cheese: Brie or other soft ripened cheese, Washed Rind, Fromage Blanc.
- Unique Cheese: Morel Buttercheese, Burrata.
- Something Strong: Blue Cheese, there are many great blue cheeses made in Canada.
Cheese compliments
- Jams or Jellies, like Saskatoon Jam or Rhubarb Jelly.
- Pickles, my favourite is pickled asparagus and pickled beets.
- Charcuterie, choose a couple locally produced dry cured products like bresaola or country ham. As a compliment to the cheese, put about 50 grams of each charcuterie on the board.
- Condiments…Grainy Mustard and Hot Honey bring a lot of excitement to the board.
Bread and crackers
- Really go for it. You can find buttermilk crackers or other specialty crackers. Rustic Cheddar Loaf, Cranberry Nut Bread and Baguette are all excellent options. Choose your favourite.
- More is more. You can always add fresh or dried fruit, olives and nuts.
- Don’t forget to have cheese knives, demitasse spoons and even labels.
