June 23 @ 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
Meet The van der Gun’s
Emigrating from Holland in 1999, we started our dairy together in 2001 with 30 cows. About 17 years later, our family farm is still going strong and currently we are milking about 130 cows. We expanded the barn in 2007 and changed the cow housing into a barn there they freely roam around, or free stalls. Recently, we built a barn for the cows that aren’t milking, which is connected with the existing dairy barn.
Our 4 daughters are involved in the local 4H Rangeland Beef Club with a variety of projects from sewing to beef to dairy. All of our girls are interested in agriculture.
We also farm 400 acres of barley, alfalfa and grass hay. The heifers are grazing in pastures during the summer. Most of the field work we do ourselves, but at the moment we have a full-time employee, Philip.
In May and June, our dairy is the host to school tours to educate students about the dairy farming. We have about 150 people coming out for the tours each year! We also hosted Open Farm Days for the last 2 years.
We hope you enjoy your visit at our family dairy!
