Meet Glen Park Holsteins
Rudy and Karen Gengler are the owners of Glen Park Holsteins dairy farm. They have three kids Melissa, Garrett, and Branden.
Rudy Gengler grew up on a family dairy farm in the Netherlands. When he was 22 years old, he came to Canada on an exchange program with very little money in search of farming opportunities. He worked in BC for eight years to gain some experience and to save up to buy his own farm. He soon moved to Lacombe to work on the Ekkel Farm where they helped him buy some dairy cows, quota and a rental farm of his own. This good friendship is one of the main reasons Rudy became successful.
The first years were a struggle, but soon he saved up enough to no longer rent and in 1997, he settled in Leduc County where Glen Park Holsteins was born.
The farm is currently milking 110 cows with two voluntary milking machines. The farm also employs one full time herdsman named Daniel. The family also farms about 400 acres of land- corn, barley and grass hay.
In their free time the family has converted a 1950’s barn to host seasonal “Farm to Table Dinners” focusing on farm education and using fresh local produce with some of the best chefs Edmonton has to offer. The dinners at The Old Red Barn are something Melissa and her husband Matt are passionate about, as they love to support local farmers, and educate people about where their food comes from.
Glen Park Holsteins is always re-inventing, creating and looking for ways to make enhancements around the farm. Over the years this has proven to be the strength of the farm; always learning and always improving.
