In Alberta, there are currently 15 milk hauling companies that are contracted by Alberta Milk to pick up milk at dairy farms and to deliver to processing plants. The 15 companies pick up milk at the farms every day of the year and deliver 68 loads of milk each day, at approximately 27,500 litres per load. All farm pickups are done by government licensed Bulk Milk Graders who grade the milk before pumping it into their stainless steel tankers for transport. The grading system ensures that only the highest quality milk, that meets our Canadian Quality Milk standards, is shipped to the processing plants.
