What is the average herd size in Alberta?

Asked By Katherine

There are about 125 cows, on average, on each dairy farm in Alberta.

Most of those cows (95%) are of the Holstein breed, which are the black and white cows you commonly associate with dairy animals. However, there are many different types of dairy cows including Jersey, Ayrshire and Brown Swiss across Alberta.
