Alberta Milk doesn’t monitor the type of housing systems on each of our farms, so unfortunately we don’t have “official” data to provide you.
However, we can tell you that we do have some tie stall housing systems in Alberta, but the vast majority of our housing is free stall.
No matter what system works best each farm, remember that they ALL need to follow our third party validated program called proAction. Through proAction Canadian dairy farmers collectively demonstrate responsible stewardship of their animals and the environment, sustainably producing high-quality, safe, and nutritious food for consumers. Our farms also follow the Dairy Code of Practice. The Code was developed with the veterinarians, Humane Societies and so many other leading animal health professionals. Making sure the cows are well cared for is the top concern for our farmers.
