After one of the major food companies released their new avocado salad dressing, my husband’s social media sites lit up and he shared the comments with me. Many people said that they had tried it and found it a refreshing change, however, the colour was unappealing. I was curious so I bought a bottle. It tasted slightly bland and the colour was a dark grey-green – definitely not appetizing. I decided to create my own version using Greek yogurt to lighten the texture and brighten the colour.

This recipe is naturally healthy and only has 5 ingredients. Greek yogurt contains high quality protein, avocadoes have healthy fat and the fresh herbs and lime contain antioxidants. Best of all, it is a lovely bright green colour.

In keeping with the traditional Mexican flavours that usually go with avocadoes, I used fresh cilantro and garlic as herbs and sprinkled chives on top. It’s delicious and super easy. All you have to do is put the ingredients in your food processor or mash by hand and your dressing is ready. If you decide to do it by hand, make sure to chop your herbs finely.

For a spicier dressing, add hot sauce or hot pepper flakes. Try it on a taco or taco salad for a taste adventure! Enjoy!

Avocado Greek Yogurt Dressing
Prep Time
5-10 minutes


1/2 fresh avocado
1/4 cup (60 ml) Greek Yogurt (plain)
1 cup (250 ml) cilantro leaves and stems
1/2 tsp (2 ml) minced garlic
1/2 -1 tsp (2-5 ml) fresh lime juice
1/2 - 1 cup (125-250 ml) water
chopped chives, optional
salt, to taste


  1. Scoop out the flesh of the avocado into a blender or food processor.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients, except the water, chives, and salt.
  3. Process until smooth. Add water to adjust texture if it's too thick.
  4. Taste and adjust seasons accordingly.
  5. Top salads, tacos, or use as a dip for fresh veggies
